Reflection on English 102

Reflection

Writing has never been my strong point.  I have always struggled in English classes throughout my school years.  I was not looking forward to taking this class this semester, but it is a required class so I really had no choice.    After our first writing assignment, “The Greatest Griefs Are Those We Cause Ourselves.”, the class did not seem as bad as I thought it would be.  Professor Brady was very helpful as well as my classmates.  My writing still has room for improvement but I feel as a result of this class I became a better writer.
I believe the fish bowl discussions really helped me with my writing.  Analyzing the plays, stories and poems were very helpful with the writing assignments.  Listening to the points made by professor Brady and the comments made by my classmates made me dig deeper when writing.  I learned to give more concrete examples when writing and be more creative with my ideas.  The writing assignments were difficult many times and made me critically think, but I made it through.  The work load was huge but looking back I think it was needed to improve my writing.

Favorite Classes :)

Favorite Class Memories:

There were many lectures and discussions in class that made me stop and think this semester.
My top three were the lecture on oppression, the poetry and the fishbowl discussions.  These lessons made me think deeper and they helped me with my writing and coming up with ideas for my papers.

The lesson on oppression made me think more about the subject. Writing my paper, I did research on oppression.  I read about Malala a young girl who was shot in the face for standing up for what she believed in.  Malala was a victim of oppression but she did not let it define who she is.  She brought the oppression lesson to life for me.

The poetry lesson was another favorite of mine.  I always knew there was a connection between poetry and music.  This lesson opened my eyes to this fact.  I listen to music every day, while working out, studying or just relaxing.  I find myself listening more closely these days.  The lecture caused me to listen with more intensity, and get more out of my music.

My favorite fish bowl discussion was the recent one on poetry.  It helped us analysis the poems closely.  Listening to my class mates make connections to these poems really made me stop and think.  I discovered messages in the poems that at first I did not pick up on.  These discussions made everything clearer.
